Welcome to HCAE
A message from our director:

Welcome to Horry County Adult Education Program!
We are here to help adults outside of the K–12 setting achieve their educational goals—and so much more. With two base sites, as well as virtual and satellite options, we are committed to meeting learners where they are and guiding them toward success. We invite you to Catch the Adult Education W.A.V.E.: Working, Advancing, and Valuing Education!
I’m Etta Greene Carter, proud to serve as Director of Horry County Adult Education. This year marks my twelfth year leading this program and my 27th year in education. My journey has taken me through roles as a teacher, coach, and assistant principal in both middle and high schools across the district. I hold a Master’s in Educational Leadership, a Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction, and a Bachelor’s in English Education. Having served in both rural and urban settings, I value being approachable, innovative, and deeply committed to helping students thrive.
At Horry County Adult Education, our mission is to:
-
Assist adults in becoming literate and gaining the knowledge and skills necessary for employment and economic self-sufficiency.
-
Support parents in acquiring the educational skills to fully engage in their children’s learning.
-
Help adults complete their secondary education and prepare for new opportunities.
We believe education opens doors. That’s why we provide free, flexible programs that allow students to learn at their own pace and return as often as needed.
This year, our theme is “It Starts With You!” We know that if you show up with the willingness to work toward your goals, our dedicated team will help you build a path to success. Even if you are unsure of your next step, we will work alongside you to create an individualized plan that moves you forward with confidence.
We invite you to explore all that our program has to offer—far beyond just earning a high school diploma. As our community’s needs evolve, so do our programs, ensuring we remain a resource for growth, opportunity, and empowerment.
Stay connected with us through our website and social media pages for updates, events, and success stories.
Thank you for your continued support, and remember: our doors are always open.
Sincerely,
Etta Greene Carter
